Description

The former Wilhelm Landau's Bank House at Senatorska 38 Street in Warsaw. The building erected in the years 1904-1906 according to the design by Gustaw Landau-Gutenteger (1862-1924), author of numerous tenement houses and public utility buildings in Łódź. It is a two-storey building with a basement, situated in place of the former outbuilding of the Mniszech Palace and erected on an elongated rectangle plan. The facade is almost symmetric, decorated with rustic quoins and with middle part raised with the main entrance originally topped with a many-sided dome which was removed after 1945. The window openings of the first storey are closed with a segmental arch and the window openings of the second storey - with a round arch. The door is frame and panel with large glazing and the Art Nouveau decor with floral motifs. There is a brick balcony supported on two consoles above the entrance. There are two storeys of window openings, including the highest large thermal window enclosed by a relief ornament in the form of leaves and fruits as well as scrollworks above it.  The entirety is topped with a concavo-convex cornice with dentation. The gateway is situated in the outermost northern axis. Despite numerous renovations the original interior design of the former bank with the marble staircase supported by two columns has been retained. The main hall - half-round with the glass ceiling and the original floor with the maple leave motif. Rooms with the Art Nouveau wainscot and original door woodwork.
