Description

The tenement house at 30 Chmielna Street in Warsaw, erected in the years 1860-1861 as a two-storey building. In 1906 according to the design by Jarosław Wojciechowski (1874-1942), a conservator (and the architect of the Kujawy-Kalisz Diocesan Curia in the years 1911-1923), one floor was added and the building was decorated with details in the Art Nouveau and Zakopane style. It is a four-storey tenement house situated in the northern frontage of the street and one of the very few buildings of this type in Poland. The facade is symmetric and topped on the axis with a small triangular gable with the sun motif. The first floor is decorated with rustic quoins and topped with a cornice. Window openings are closed in a straight manner, except for the windows on the third floor, which are closed with a round arch. The tenement house survived the war period without any damage and was renovated around 2005.
