Description

The Cyprian Kamil Norwid Municipal Theatre at 38 Wojska Polskiego Avenue in Jelenia Góra. The building erected on a rectangular plan in the years 1903-1905 according to Alfred Daehmel's design in place of the former shooting range as the so-called Art and Association House. Originally, it housed with three restaurant halls, two exhibition halls, a brew, a social meeting hall, and a three-storey auditorium with nearly 700 seats, a stage, a dressing room, and utility rooms. It is a three-storey edifice with regularly located avant-corps and a fragmented picturesque body. The ground floor of the building is decorated with rustic quoins and separated from the rest of the building by the wide cornice. Three equal entrances located between half-pillars, over which there is a terrace with a low brick balustrade, lead to the theatre. The facade is surrounded by two tower avant-corps covered with domes. Two storeys of window openings were placed in the central part of the facade between two lesenes decorated with rustic quoins. The upper windows closed with a flattened arch have additionally curved and wavy internal divisions. Elevations are covered with rich relief decor in the form of festoons, female masks, and musical instruments.
