HOW TO GET MATERIALS YOU FOUND?

The University Library offers access to its holdings in the reading rooms of the Main Library, in the departmental and faculty libraries and through individual lending and interlibrary loan (ILL) services. The interlibrary loan services give you the possibility to use the holdings of both national and international libraries. The computer lab offers access to the data bases on CD-ROM and these ones available via Internet. The rights to use the library’s holdings have holders of valid library cards. The first year students get their library cards with the credit book and the student card. The part-time and postgraduate students get their library cards directly from the issue desk. The library cards are also available for the external users after paying a deposit.

How to borrow books?

To borrow a book, one has to fill out an order form and put it inside the box located by the issue desk. The order forms have to be filled readably and precisely. You have to remember to write your library card number. The order forms are sent to the storage every half an hour. It is necessary to wait about 30 minutes for the materials you ordered. The full-time, part-time and postgraduate students can borrow up to five books, the external users up to four books, for one month lending period. Renewals are possible on the readers’ individual requests. You can not take outside the library publications from the reference library, special collections, periodicals, encyclopaedias, lexicons, dictionaries, bibliographies and publications published before 1945.

How to use books, which you can not borrow outside the Library?

The reference library comprises: encyclopaedias, dictionaries, information publications of type "Who is who?", monographs from the main branches of science, students textbooks and essential periodicals.

To order the books and older periodicals from the storage to the reading room you have to fill out the order form with red stripe and to put it into the boxes located in the Main Reading Room or by the Enquiry Desk. You have to wait for the documents you ordered for about 30 minutes. The delivered documents you can use as long as you need, when you finish you have to tell this the librarians in the Reading Room.

There is also the photocopy machine in the Main Reading Room, which you can use on your own with magnetic card. You can also order by filling a special form the photocopies of documents to be made in the Library Xerox Room.

The Main Reading Room provides with about 2 000 foreign and Polish periodicals subscribed by the Library and the older titles in the form of microfiches or microfilms.

The interlibrary loan services handles both national and foreign loans. You have to deliver your order form directly to the ILL services room. You have to know the exact bibliographical description of an item needed and you have to know the title, year, pages of journal containing materials you want to get. Inaccurate information will make the realisation of your enquiry longer. All materials delivered from other libraries do not circulate, you can use them only in the reading rooms in time determined by the lending library. The ordered materials are delivered by post and it lasts not longer than one month. The costs of postage are covered by the University Library. The other costs and costs of copies are covered by the reader ordering the materials.

The holdings of the departmental and faculty libraries are available for the postgraduate students and external users only on the spot.
