ENCYCLOPAEDIAS

Encyclopaedia is the most essential and general information source. Its name comes from the Greek "enkyklios paideia" which means general education. Encyclopaedia provides short definitions or factgraphic explanations (historical or current) on the subject of your interests. You have to remember that encyclopaedias are usually available in libraries only in reading rooms.

MONOGRAPHS

Monographs are the results of researches, usually very extensive, which try to give a full information on given subject. They are the compendiums of knowledge. Monographes often get also the subtitle - academic textbook, what indicates the group of receivers, what does not mean that other readers should not use them, but they should be aware of the academic standard of these publications.

How to look for monographs in the catalogues of the NCU Main Library see Catalogues and OPAC.

ATTENTION!

The handbook about information sources gives the possibility to find, what tools you can use to get materials on given subject. The publications, prepared for the needs of this course, concerns physics, precisely the Sun and sun energy. The presented literature is not the complete list of the holdings of the Main Library and the deparmental and faculty libraries, but it is only a choice of some publications. Each publication is evaluated according to its usefullness in three categories: *** very good; ** good; * good enough. Detailed information about publications evaluating you will find: How to evaluate information sources.
