Henryk Hollender supervises the library system of the biggest
university in Poland since 1992. He holds his Ph.D. degree in the History
of the Book and a "Magister Bibliotekoznawstwa" degree from Warsaw
University, a postgraduate diploma in journalism from the same university,
and Certificate of Advanced Studies in Library Science from Kent State University,
Kent, Ohio.
He teaches Academic Libraries and Management of Libraries
at the Institute of Scientific Information and Book Studies, Warsaw University,
where he previously worked as a full time lecturer. His publications include
ca. 50 papers in scholarly and professional journals. He is active in the
Polish Library Association, the consortium of Polish VTLS libraries, and
the consortial initiative for the national union catalog for Poland.

Greetings!
Let me tell you why I think the chief task of information managers
is knowledge organisation. Consider the growth of information as one curve,
and the growth of knowledge as another one. There is no way to make both
curves identical. They do not happen to be parallel, either. It is so that
one of them shows much more dynamic change than the other. Thus the field
between them is widening. And burning.
I believe this is very much the field for our action. Local action,
stemming out of global thinking. Torun is just one of localities; a good
one indeed, but we have plenty of wonderful places in this part of the world.
I believe that our efforts will bring about a better organisation of human
knowledge; and some sheer human joy for all involved.
